I agree with most of the stuff you posted Scott. Myself and a bunch of others in the ubuntu community have spent many hours a day fixing people issues that are directly or indirectly linked to automatix. One was a libc6 issue he had wrong version of it (doubtful it came from automatix BUT why after removing the automatix installed packages were we able to fix this for him. Person number 2 had many proplems after having automatix installed. he used it to install codecs and graphic drivers java and a few other things. we had to remove each of the packages automatix installed. (there is not yet an easy way to search for those packages installed by automatix if the user cant remeber what he installed with it. At one point automatix said on thier site something along the lines of if people from #ubuntu sent you to #automatix for help because your system is messed up than you will not get help. I cant find it on thier site at this moment but it was there 2 weeks ago. I am not here to bash automatix (i dont hate it i just dont see a use for it) but i would like to see either automatix LP team support the problems with people with automatix installed (without any haterd between the 2 communities) I have sent many people for help either to #automatix or #easyubuntu and i have only seen users come back from automatix saying we cant help you #ubuntu is lying or being banned. I have yet seen anyone sent to #easyubuntu come back either with same issue or to complain. This is not to start a flamewar because again i have no feelings toward either project its just nice to see people work to better ubuntu. Anyway i have pretty much stopped supporting automatix issues in the past week or 2 due to the lack of professionalism i have seen and or heard of about the automatix channel. I would love to see a team support it but there needs to be an understanding that #ubuntu doesnt hate your product but its hard to say its ubuntu when 2 pcs with same software on them one with automatix and one without the one with automatix is broken in some way. AGAIN THIS IS NOT A FLAMEWAR AND DONT POST TO IT IF YOU FEEL LIKE STARTING ONE. this is just a post in reply to Scotts post that the LP team should support it. BTW: Ubuntu doesnt support automatix in any way shape or form as we didnt have anything to do with it. So i dont believe we should work Ubuntu around the 3rd party packages example update-manager it works around for the most part just ubuntu packages not 3rd party installed ones except libgl1-mesa* downgrade cause of a mistake in compiz code but that has been fixed since.
