Alexander Sack and the Mozilla Team are working on updated Firefox packages for Dapper, Edgy and Feisty releases and they need YOU to test them! To help you help them, a special QA report page has been created. This Firefox testing effort is a great way to contribute to Ubuntu and is important for helping Ubuntu to raise the quality of every release. Testing will take just a few minutes:

* Register for a new account here
* Click on the distribution and Firefox package you want to test!
* Check tests list and test beta packages out!
* Fill out the requested form with your report!
* Feel good about contributing to Ubuntu

Feel free to contact any member of the Mozilla Team in the #ubuntu-mozillateam IRC channel on Freenode or on the ubuntu-mozillateam’s mailing list if you have additional questions or you are just interested in joining the team.

ok first off i would like to fix something i wrote this morning in first post.
>>>i have seen 80% of users that use automatix need
to reinstall their system. <<<

ok that should read
" 80% of users that i have seen with have had to or found it better to reinstall"
in short sorry to all the automatix users that got feathers ruffled ;)

I was givent he link to this article this morning and i had an ill feeling after reading part of it, the article can be found at:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/04/technology/circuits/04basics.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
The part about suggesting Automatix is the part that bothered me most, so after some more reading and thinking i decided to email the author Larry Magid. I will paste the email i sent to this blog since i havent figured out how to use drivel all that well yet. Ijust though the Ubuntu community should be aware of things that impact them for support reasons or just knowledge well here is what i wrote to him, when i get a responce i will let everyone know thank you/.

Hello Mr. Magid,
This is concerning the article at:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/04/technology/circuits/04basics.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
I am a Ubuntu Member and been around for years supporting, packaging,
ect... and the article is great. 1 thing that i must comment on (the
only thing not 100% on track is the part saying:
> > One way to do that is to first download a program called Automatix from www.getautomatix.com

In the community we have seen on IRC and forums that using automatix can
have very ill effects i have seen 80% of users that use automatix need
to reinstall their system. Ubuntu has always been able to install most
things that were needed for dvds videos or what not from the
universe/multiverse repositories. We also have other repositories that
are safe to grab the non-free packages from like the medibuntu
repositories and the Canonical supported repository for Ubuntu 7.04 and
prior was named http://archive.canonical.com/ feisty commercial- Now as
of Ubuntu7.10 is named http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu gutsy
partner. Thank you for letting me take up some of your time.

I have been running a Gutsy system since repos first opened, prior to the tool chain being finished, (yes very dangerous) but what can i say i love testing devel versions. During the testing there were some problems yes (alot less than dapper testing) but i tested the beta ISO yesterday and i have to say GREAT WORK to everyone that has been working on it, asac did great work on shaping network-manager, ifupdown, and wpa it has come a long way since edgy/feisty's versions, Would like to also thank the compiz developers on a great job getting compiz to the point that it can be enabled by default it works great guys.
I would also like to thank the Xorg devels for getting bulletproof X and the other features from xorg 7.3 into Gutsy. It is impossible to name everyone that has been working on Gutsy, thank you everyone for making Ubuntu the best distro out there.

Dont get me wrong there is still work to be done on Gutsy but it really is shaping up to be a great release.

on a side note i went out looking for a book the other day and went to "Boarders" and "Barnes and Noble" to pick up "The Official Ubuntu Book" version 2, and i saw something i never expected, I saw more differnet Ubuntu books than RHEL Fedora or Suse i was so happy to see that, When i go back to the stores maybe early next week i will take picutes of the books they have and post them somewhere (unknown where yet maybe my wiki) but i will blog to let you know where they can be viewed at.

Lastly Great job Ladies and Gents!!!!!

Report problems (bugs, questions....) to ubuntu-mozillateam@lists.ubuntu.com not the first address i gave this will make sure me and asac get the mail.
The repos to get these packages from will be listed below. Please note these are not final builds and are not ubuntu supported just yet. We are testing iceape to go into Feisty+1 and the firefox-trunk packages are for testing if you like bleeding edge. just a reminder the firefox 3.0 builds (trunk) is still in alpha stage and will not be released before october of this year so it may have its times it doesnt work.
